My FED Farm 2020 is Complete!
2020 has been a wild ride to say the least! The impacts of COVID-19 have been felt by all walks of life across our communities, nation, and globally; these impacts have looked different for all of us, but they have presented their own challenges none the less. We have all been forced outside of our comfort zones, to adapt to a new way of living, and to step up and help where we can in any capacity.
When COVID-19 put us all into lockdown and many Victorians lost their jobs or were presented with new challenging circumstances, we knew that we had to find a way to help. FED launched the My FED Farm program to distribute free start up food gardens to those disproportionately affected by the pandemic. We like to dream big, so we set a goal of reaching 500 homes in the Greater Victoria region with these start up gardens to increase food security on the Island. We are excited to announce that we EXCEEDED our goal and provided garden kits to 514 homes and community centers!

We are so grateful for the amazing support from our community who have helped to make this program possible. From over 65 volunteers who dedicated their time to organize installations, provide garden consultations, and fill planters with soil, to our outstanding partners and sponsors who have provided so much support, we have been blown away by the generosity of this community.
My FED Farm was able to reach low income housing, senior centers, immunocompromised households, first nation communities, individuals with disabilities, laid off workers, frontline workers, single parent households and more! Over 65,000 seeds and plant started were donated to this initiative, 82 educational videos to support gardens were collected and created, 1,115 people are directly benefiting from these gardens and there is over 10,000 pounds of food to be grown based on the planter growing capacity!
It is our hope to have empowered individuals to begin and continue growing their own food who otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do so. We believe that collectively we have the power to reshape the food growing scene in Victoria, reconnecting people with their food and giving them the resources to supplement their diets with home grown produce. The team behind My FED Farm will continue to provide educational resources to our garden recipients to support them in their growing journeys & we will be re-launching the program in early 2021!
Thank you to everyone who made this possible! We are beyond grateful for the outpouring of support from our community. We are stronger together. Together we were able to make a big impact in our community.
Let’s Keep Growing!
